CARRIER PROFILE

Fadhili Said Guni is a Senior Research Officer at the Tanzania Livestock Research Institute (TALIRI). He holds a PhD in Animal Science, an MSc in Tropical Animal Production, and a BSc in Animal Science from Sokoine University of Agriculture.

Fadhili started his career as a Research Officer with the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries Development in 2008. Early in his career, he was involved in a significant research project funded by the Zonal Agricultural and Livestock Development Funds (ZARDEF), focusing on the identification and improvement of indigenous chicken ecotypes in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania. His work in this area laid the foundation for his continued dedication to poultry research, particularly in the identification, characterization, improvement, and conservation of local chicken breeds.

Fadhili, also served as the Zonal Coordinator for the African Chicken Genetic Gains (ACGG) project in the Southern Highlands Zone. This program aimed to access, test, adapt, and foster public-private partnerships to multiply and disseminate well-adapted, low-input chickens to boost productivity in sub-Saharan Africa. Within this project, he conducted a research project on comparative performance of two improved chicken breeds reared under different agro-ecologies and management systems in Tanzania. This research, supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), aimed to evaluate the performance of these breeds under various conditions to establish their suitability and recommend the most appropriate breed for specific environments.

Throughout his career, Fadhili has enhanced his expertise by attending numerous short courses within and outside the country. He has made significant contributions to the scientific community through his publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conferences. Currently, Fadhili is the Zonal Director for TALIRI Southern Zone, where he continues to lead and contribute to the advancement of livestock research and development.
