Dr. Chang'a is a research scientist with over 16 years of experience in the livestock industry. His research interests are in poultry nutrition and animal breeding. He has published 10 peer-reviewed journal articles and 16 conference papers. Previoulsy, Dr. Chang'a worked for National Ranching Company serving a position of assistant ranch manager at Kitengule ranch in Kagera region (2004-2005), where he was mainly involved breeding of Boran cattle and fattening program. He then moved to local government authorities as head of livestock section at Iringa Municipal council (2005-2007) leading various livestock projects under ASDP and DADPS programs. While at Iringa, he collaborated with PANTIL project of Sokoine University of Agriculture under the program of dairy goat. Since 2007 after joining TALIRI, Dr. Chang’a has been involved in local and international projects, including those under ZARDEF, Farm Africa, Oxfarm, ASARECA and VicRES programs. He served as a part time livestock tutor at MATI Ukiriguru and LITA Mabuki from 2012-2013. Dr. Chang’a holds a PhD from the University of New England, Australia. His PhD focused on Evaluation of feed quality and supply to the small-to-medium scale poultry sector in Tanzania. He also holds an MSc in Tropical Animal Production and a BSc in Animal Science, both from Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania. During his Master degree, he characterized the production performance of Red Maasai sheep. Dr. Chang’a has attended other courses, including Diploma on Dairy husbandry and Milk Processing, Certificate in Machine Milking both from PTC⁺, The Netherlands, and Milk Value Chain in Bishoftu, Debre Zeit, Ethiopia. He has also attended several Feed formulation courses in The Netherlands, Australia and Tanzania. Currently, Dr. Chang’a is a Zonal Director at TALIRI Southern Highlands zone, Mbeya, Tanzania.
