is a Principal Research Officer at Tanzania Livestock Research Institute (TALIRI) who has worked with Tanzania’s National Agricultural Research Systems (NARS) for nearly three decades. In this capacity, Daniel has participated in and led various research and development projects in animal agriculture and allied fields that were funded by the Tanzanian Government (URT) and other local and international research and development partners. He was a grantee of the International Foundation For Science (IFS) (1999 – 2002; 2007 - 2010); the grantee of the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) / Lake Victoria Research Initiative (VicRes) (2006 - 2010); Principal Investigator and collaborator in livestock research and development projects funded by the Zonal Agricultural and Livestock Development Funds (ZARDEF) and the Regional Universities Forum in Eastern and Southern Africa (RUFORUM) (2009 – 2012) and has been a participant and Country Principal Investigator of a multi-disciplinary and multi-national African Dairy Genetic Gains (ADGG) Program (2015 – 2022). On the other hand, Dr Komwihangilo has been a research administrator in various capacities and sat on different professional teams and committees. He is and has been a Member of the Research and Development (R&D) Advisory Committee on Agriculture and Livestock to the Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH), 2014 – 2016 and 2022 – 2025. Daniel has equally held senior positions in research administration including that of National Livestock Research Coordinator (2007 – 2012) and Tanzania Livestock Research Institute Acting Director General (2012 – 2016). Dr Komwihangilo has also served as a supervisor and or co-supervisor of undergraduate and postgraduate students for Tanzania’s Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) and the Open University of Tanzania (OUT); and also as an External Examiner in the Department of Animal, Aquaculture and Range Sciences (DAARS) at SUA. He has authored or co-authored over 70 scientific publications in ruminant feeding and livestock production systems as well as in crosscutting issues in livestock production including climate change, gender and food and nutritional security. Daniel is a graduate of Sokoine University of Agriculture with a BSc (Agriculture) and Doctor of Philosophy degrees (1991 and 2005) respectively and has a Master of Philosophy (Agriculture) degree from the University of Reading (1997) in the United Kingdom.
