LIVESTOCK TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER
Objective
To enhance and promote wider and sustainable utilization of developed technologies and innovations to improve rural livelihood
Functions
To provide technical backstopping for technology transfer to research centres
Develop research tools/approaches for identification of research opportunities and monitor their utilization;
Build capacity to researchers and other stakeholders on the use of agricultural innovation system and value chain approaches;
Prepare livestock research manuals, guidelines, standards, code of ethics and conduct for delivery of livestock research services;
Promote private sector involvement and empowerment in the sector for wider and sustainable livestock technology utilization; and
Promote sharing and exchange of skills and knowledge in livestock technologies.
The Division is led by a Director and comprises of two Sections as follows:-
Innovation and Knowledge Management Section; and
Technology Dissemination Section
Innovation and Knowledge Management Section
This Section performs the following activities
Repackage and upscale technology for wide application;
Identify mechanisms/strategies/approaches for improving productivity;
Gather and share knowledge with stakeholders on the utilization of identified technologies;
Establish and maintain database on the developed and adopted technologies;
Identify research constraints, propose solutions and develop tools for identifying challenges
Provide technical information on livestock development to the general public;
Prepare research tools/approaches for identification of research opportunities and monitor their utilization; and
Promote formulation of sustainable livelihood projects and economic groups for community involvement in the management of livestock resources;

Technology Dissemination Section
This Section performs the following activities:
Collect information on livestock research technologies from researchers and other stakeholders and disseminate to livestock keepers, extension services and relevant stakeholders for wider application;
Develop and implement training program on livestock production and allied sciences for enhancing capacity of researchers within the TALIRI or in collaboration with other relevant Institutions/stakeholders;
Organize livestock shows, exhibitions, conferences, seminars, symposiums and study tours for technological information; and
Develop and maintain a central register of livestock research service providers in the research and development public and private sector to facilitate livestock technology transfer.
